Mah Jongg Lessons & Free Play for Beginners

Learn the fun and mentally stimulating game of mah jongg! Sign up for this four-week lesson series for beginners, starting April 24. It's easiest to learn if you can make every session! Transmission Lines in the Hudson River: What you need to know about the Champlain Hudson Power Express Project and Clean Path Project

In November 2021, New York finalized contracts for Clean Path, NY and Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) to deliver onshore wind and solar energy from upstate New York and hydroelectric power from Canada to New York City. A significant portion of each transmission line route will be submerged under the Hudson River.  On April 26, Riverkeeper's staff attorney Drew Gamils and Habitat Restoration Director George Jackman will provide an overview of the Clean Path and CHPE transmission projects at the Croton Yacht Club. This overview will include a description of each project, status update on each project, and a discussion of the potential environmental impacts and the Champlain Hudson Environmental Trust. This event is free and open to the public. 


Croton Point History & Nature Hike

Saturday, April 27th - 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM

Croton Point Park Naturalist John Phillips and Village of Croton Historian Marc Cheshire will lead a hike on Saturday, April 27, at 9 a.m. to explore Croton Point’s history, natural history, archaeology and geology. The hike will last roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. This event is free. Meet at the gate to the RV park, where parking is available. Ages 6 and up; wear sturdy shoes.

Community Blood Drive

The New York Blood Center will be hosting a blood drive at the Croton Free Library, 171 Cleveland Drive, on Saturday, April 27th, 2024 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Appointments preferred, but walk-ins welcome if drive capacity permits. To sign up, call 1-800-933-2566 or register online at nybc.org/donate. 

Earth Day Celebration 2024

Join the Croton Conservation Advisory Council for the Annual Croton Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10 AM to 4 PM at Senasqua Park! This exciting event offers a blend of fun and eco-friendly learning opportunities for the whole family. With over 20 vendors, including local environmental groups and community organizations, attendees can explore valuable resources and information on environmental conservation. Don't miss the beloved tree giveaway and the inaugural "Vote for Croton’s Flower" contest! Entertainment features Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk, Janette Aiello from Little Genii Puppets, Funny Fish with Chris Letts, Yoga with Cassie, and live music by Bobby G. and The Bohemians from 10:00 AM onwards. Food options will be available from the Kinwich food truck. A free shuttle will be operating from the event area across the Village throughout the day.


National Drug Take Back Day

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Turn in your unused or expired prescriptions for safe disposal at Croton Commons, 175 S. Riverside Drive. 


CLEAN 100 Yard Trash Challenge to Celebrate Earth Day

Saturday, April 27th - Sunday, April 28th
 

In conjunction with the Village's Earth Day celebration on 4/27, CLEAN Croton challenges you to finish the 100 YARD TRASH. The challenge is simple - outside your home, business or favorite spot in the village, clean up every piece of trash you can find within 100 yards. Send a picture of your haul that weekend to cleancroton@johnealer.com, along with the details of where you cleaned up and how much your haul weighed.

Celebration of Local Authors

Each year, the Croton Free Library honors published authors hailing from, working in, and/or writing about Croton-on-Hudson and its neighboring towns and villages. Stop in, hear short readings, and meet authors in your community! Free and open to all. Readers of all ages are welcome. Books will be available for purchase and signing. A portion of book sales will benefit the Library.


Village Housing Forum

The Village is organizing a Housing Forum on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, starting at 7:00 PM. The event will take place at the Harmon Firehouse located at 30 Wayne Street. Representatives from the Westchester County Planning Board, Pace Land Use Law Center, Village Housing Task Force, and Village Board will participate. This forum aims to expand on the discussions held during the 2018 Housing Charette and the 2021 Housing Needs Assessment Forum.


Weekly Art Workshops at Croton Free Library

Join artist Aindrila Mukherjee to create beautiful projects with acrylic paint! Topics will include mandala design, Indian folk art, one-stroke painting techniques, and bird and flower painting. I Love My Park Day Croton

Join the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct and the Village of Croton-on-Hudson for I Love My Park Day on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 10:00 am.  There will be something for everyone: family friendly invasive Garlic mustard pulling for parents and children and a variety of other invasive plant management work including removing prickly Barberry bushes, and vine removal using a pole pruner to save the trees on the trail. Also learn from a stone mason how to build stone walls. No experience necessary; all tools provided. Register as a volunteer at the following link: www.aqueduct.org/ILMPD

Croton Yacht Club Annual College Scholarship Fundraiser

The Croton Yacht Club is holding its annual College Scholarship fundraiser on Saturday, May 4th. The event will include an all you can eat pasta night, with various pasta dishes, salad, coffee and dessert. A silent auction and sales will be conducted during the evening as well as a 50-50 fund raising raffle. A donation of $25 for adults, $15 for teens is requested; children 12 and under are free. All net proceeds will go to the Croton Yacht Club College Scholarship Fund. Since its inception in 2010, the Yacht Club has awarded over $20,000 in scholarship grants to Croton Harmon High School graduates pursuing undergraduate studies in the marine, maritime, environmental science and/or environmental engineering fields. Free Rabies Vaccinations for Westchester Pets

Westchester County residents can bring their dogs, cats and ferrets in for free rabies vaccinations on Sunday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stamen Animal Hospital, 61 Quaker Ridge Road, New Rochelle.  No appointments are needed, but residents are advised to bring proof of prior rabies vaccinations for their pets. The Big Easy On The Hudson Jazz & Blues Fest

The Croton Business Council (CBC) will host 'The Big Easy on the Hudson', a day filled with live Jazz & Blues, Artisanal Food, Beverage and Retail vendors, and family fun, at Vassallo Park. Attendance is free. No outside alcohol will be permitted in the festival area. A free shuttle will be operating from the Croton-Harmon Train Station to the Upper Village throughout the day.
